About Us
Bentley Copse has been offering outdoor adventures in the Surrey Hills since 1918. Over a century later, we’re still doing the same thing that started it all — giving young people the chance to camp, climb, shoot, build, and explore in 30 acres of ancient woodland, somewhere they can properly get outside.
Bentley Copse is a registered charity and part of Surrey Scouts — though you don’t need to be a Scout to camp, learn, or celebrate with us. Alongside Scout and Guide groups, we welcome schools, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, and youth organisations from across Surrey and beyond, as well as families booking birthday parties.
As a charity, everything we earn goes back into the site — maintaining our woodland, improving our activities, and keeping Bentley Copse accessible to the groups who need it most.
We opened our gates in 1918, in the Surrey Hills — an area now recognised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. What began as a home for Scout camping has grown, over more than a hundred years, into a site offering over 30 activities, dormitory and camping accommodation for up to 600 people.
We believe every young person should have the chance to try something new outdoors — to camp under the trees, take on a challenge, and build the kind of confidence that only comes from doing something a little bit hard, together. Whether that’s a Scout troop’s first ever camp, a school’s outdoor learning residential, a Duke of Edinburgh expedition, or a birthday spent climbing instead of scrolling, that’s what Bentley Copse is here for.
